The West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) in Jhenaidah have supplied electricity using the bamboo made poles instead concrete poles in a village that has been continuing for past six to seven years.
It has become threat to the lives of the subscribers and the family members as the bamboos used as pillars started leaning day by day might cause fatal accident at any time, alleged the subscribers.
The subscribers said, the WZPDCL had provided connections to 23 of its subscribers at Kastosagra village under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila about six to seven years back using the bamboo poles due to shortage of their poles during the time. They assured the subscribers to replace the bamboo poles with concrete ones within a short time.
But the bamboo poles were not replaced with concrete ones. As a result they started leaning day by day. More bamboo poles were used to protect the decaying previous poles, they said.
Rafikul Islam and some other power subscribers in the village said, they had been requesting the WZPDCL local authorities to replace the bamboo poles for the interest of the lives of the people in the village for past years which could not be fulfilled. The people of the village are panicked fearing any fatal electrocution anytime, they said.
When contacted, executive engineer of the WZPDCL Shahidul Islam said, they were trying to replace the same as early as possible.
