Minu Akter, who has recently been released from Chattogram Jail after languishing in prison for three years another convict, has been killed in a road accident.
Police said Minu Akter killed being “crashed by a speeding truck” on the 13th day after her release from jail.
Chattogram’s Bayezid Bostami Police Station OC Mohammad Kamruzzaman said at about 3.30 o’clock at night on June 28, police found the body of a woman on Bayezid Link Road in Chattogram city. Later, her body was buried by Anjuman-e-Mufidul Islam as an unclaimed person.
At one stage of investigation, police got confirmed that the woman was none but Minu Akter.
She was released from Chittagong Central Jail around 5:30pm on June 16 as the High Court ordered to release her on June 7.
According to the case statement, RMG worker Kohinoor Begum was killed in a dispute in Rahmatganj area of Chattogram on July 9 in 2006.
Meanwhile, Minu’s lawyer Golam Mowla Murad said Minu’s “death” was very “unnatural.”
He said he would go to the court to launch an investigation to ascertain the reasons behind her death.
In 2017, a Chattogram court awarded life-term to one Kulsuma Akter for killing a woman at Rahmatganj in the port city in 2006. Kulsuma then offered Minu to surrender before a court on behalf of her in exchange of money and food for her children. Minu agreed and surrendered before the court on June 12, 2018, impersonating herself as Kulsuma. She was immediately sent to jail to serve her term for the crime, which was totally unknown to her.
After serving the jail term for three years, she told the jail authorities on March 18 last that she was not an accused in any murder case. Besides, she said her name was also not Kulsuma. Then she was released from jail at the directive of the High Court on June 16 last.
Minu Akter’s age was over 30. She hailed from Mainamoti in Cumilla district. Her husband Babul was a cart driver and killed in a road accident about five years ago.
