Writ seeks removal of videos assassinating character

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive upon the respondents to take necessary steps to remove and stop further spreading of any and all media reports, videos and pictures assassinating individuals’ character through breaching right to privacy from all the media platforms.
Tasmiah Nuhiya Ahmed, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition on Wednesday as a public interest litigation to the HC saying that such reports, videos and pictures are assassinating
individuals’ character through breaching right to privacy and exposing their private life in public.
She also sought a ruling from the court upon the respondents to explain as to why the respondents should not be directed to remove all the media reports, videos, pictures assassinating individual’s character from all media platforms.
In the petition, she mentioned some incidents of reports, videos and pictures which damaged reputation and privacy of persons including Dhallywood actress Sahmsunnahar Smriti alias Pori Moni, which is illegal and unconstitutional.
The petition says, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at Pori Moni’s home in Banani, Dhaka on August 4 this year.
According to RAB, they recovered 30 bottles of alcohol from her house. Following this, RAB filed a case with Banani Police Station under Narcotics Control Act, 2018 against her.
That law enforcement agencies are also not taking into account the dignity of a woman while briefing media as prescribed in the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
