World Rivers Day observed

The World River Day was observed in Rajshahi on Sunday with the call for protecting ecological balance and biodiversity from further degradation through conserving the rivers.
In observance of the day, the district administration organized a rally at its premises followed by a discussion meeting highlighting the significance of conserving rivers.
DC Abdul Jalil addressed the discussion as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque chaired the programme.
 Executive Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board Shafiqul Islam, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Shalah Uddin Al Wadud, Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lasmi Chakma and local unit general secretary of Bangladesh Paribesh Andalan Jamat Khan also spoke. DC Abdul Jalil said the rivers are losing their previous shape gradually due to various reasons, including illegal embouchement and occupation. To mitigate the problem, there is a need of creating awareness among the public in general side by side with administrative measures, he added. On behalf of the district administration, various time-fitting steps, including recovering rivers from illegal occupation, eviction of unauthorized infrastructures on rivers, removing wastes and undertaking projects to restoration of dried rivers were adopted, he added.
Staff Reporter from (Kishoreganj) adds: District Administration in Kishoreganj including environment activists arranged a colour full rally, discussion, handbills distribution aiming to increase public awareness for rivers protection of the country marking the World Rivers Day. A discussion meeting was held at Collectorate Conference Room on Sunday . DC in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam attended the programme as Chief Guest and Police Super (SP) Mohammod Rasel Sheikh PPM( Bar) as special guest, while Deputy Secretary & Deputy Director of Local Government (LG) Md.Habibur Rahman presided over it. It was addressed among others by Additional SP (Admin & Finance) Mustaque Sarker ADC (General) Golam Mostafa, ADC(Edu.& ICT) Farzana Khanam, CAB district president and Senior Journalist Alam Sarowar Tito, Gurudhayal Govt. College Associate ProfRakibuddin and TIB & Sanak district president Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu.
Later, a colour full rally brought out in the Town led by DC Mohammad Shamim Alam SP Mohammod Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) marking the Day.
