The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was observed on Wednesday in the country like elsewhere in the world through various programmes.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and other organisations took different programmes, marking the day.
Discussion, award distribution ceremony, painting competition, arts exhibition and blood donation camp were arranged in the capital. President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the day. The theme of day this year is ‘Love’. Former Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Sheikh Kabir Hossain was conferred with ‘Red Crescent Award’ this year for his contribution to human welfare.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society started its programme by hoisting national flag and its flag at its headquarters in the capital on Wednesday morning.
