The World AIDS Day was observed on Thursday in the port city in a befitting manner.
To mark the day, rallies and discussion meetings were organized by District Civil Surgeon Office, Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and Health Directorate of Chittagong and other organizations.
Addressing the discussion meetings, the speakers stressed the need for raising public awareness, avoiding unsafe sexual contact and unsafe blood transfusion for controlling the disease.They urged all to abide by the social and religious norms to remain free from the disease.
A discussion meeting was held at Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office with Civil Surgeon Dr Azizur Rahman Siddique in the chair. Earlier, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office brought a rally from Chittagong press club premises led by deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Shamsul Arefin.Doctors, social elite and NGO representatives were participated the rally.
The rally concluded at Andarkillah Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office premises after parading different important city streets.
Civil Surgeon Dr Azizur Rahman Siddique said country’s health administration and healthcare delivery system have to be made more people-friendly to address the crucial health issue of HIV/AIDS apart from taking into consideration the socio-economic reality of the country in finalizing the HIV/AIDS prevention programme.
He said religious leaders, teachers and community heads could play a significant role to create public awareness of the disease and motivate them to fight the menace.
Besides, a colorful rally was brought out from the Shahid Mozzembel Hoq Chattar premises of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) hospital premises at 10 in the morning. .
Another discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of new academic building of CMC with its director Brigadier general Jalal Uddin in the chair.
