Workshop on Shakespearean plays at Shilpakala

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a drama workshop on the premises of BSA in the city’s Segunbagicha area last week as part of year long celebrations of the 400th death anniversary of the greatest writer in the English language, William Shakespeare.
Through the workshop, the Academy aims to stage selective parts of Shakespeare’s drama.
This 15-day workshop was led by prominent theatre personality Ataur Rahman. In the workshop, trainees were divided into five teams who later staged five of Shakespeare’s greatest stage productions, ‘Merchant of Venice’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘Othello’, ‘Tempest’ and ‘Taming of the Shrew’.
The closing ceremony of the workshop took place last day of October where Minister of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Noor was present as the Chief Guest.
Presided over by Director General of BSA, Liaquat Ali Lucky, prominent dramatist, director, actor and theatre activist Mamunur Rashid graced the event as special guest while Secretary of BSA Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury delivered welcoming speech on the occasion.
After the closing ceremony, two of dramas trained in the workshop, ‘Merchant of Venice’ and ‘Macbeth’ were staged while ‘Othello’, ‘Tempest’ and ‘Taming of the Shrew’ were also staged later.
