Workshop on PPP for Crop Breeding held at BAU

A workshop on ‘Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for Crop Breeding’ was held in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh on Saturday with the objectives to share and discuss the techniques and the traits of demands of the crop variety and (ii) to generate knowledge and skills for future Crop Breeding through PPP. The workshop was organized by Plant Breeding and Genetics Society of Bangladesh (PBGSB) with the support from Agribusiness, ACI Ltd. Dr. Md. Shamsher Ali, Director General, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) graced in the workshop as Guest of Honor. Prof. Dr. Lutfur Rahman, Advisor, Agribusiness, ACI Ltd. presented concept paper on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for Crop Breeding’ and three more presentations were presented by Prof. Dr. M. A. Rahim (Director, Germplasm Center, BAU), Dr. Mirza Md. Mofazzal Islam (Plant Breeding Division, BINA), Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque (GPB, BAU) on technologies and opportunity of research in crop breeding through PPP. We discussed on possible PPP R&D of Plant Breeding in Bangladesh. 26 participants including lecturer, professors of the universities, scientists of BINA and PBGSB members were participated in the workshop. All the participants hope this workshop will enable to change mind setup of the scientists from different research institutes, universities of the country and the private sector players.
