Workshop on heritage conservation at SEU

The First ICOMOS-Bangladesh Workshop on Heritage Conservation and Management was held recently at Southeast University (SEU) Permanent Campus in the city. The workshop was organized by ICOMOS-Bangladesh in partnership with the Department of Architecture, SEU and Supported by UNESCO Office, Dhaka.
SEU Vice-chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain, Pro Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Chairman of the Department of Architecture Prof Meer Mobashsher Ali and President of ICOMOS Bangladesh Dr Sharif Shams Imon delivered opening remarks, while among others, Head and Representative of UNESCO, Dhaka Beatrice Kaldun, Conservation Architect and ADB Consultant Dr Nilan Cooray, President of Institute of Architects, Bangladesh Prof Abu Sayeed, Deputy Director of Department of Archaeology Afroza Khan Mita and General Secretary of ICOMOS Bangladesh Ar Sazzad Hossain discussed on different issues at the workshop.
Speakers stressed on strengthening existing laws to preserve cultural sites in Bangladesh. Underscoring the example of Wari Bateshwar they said, it proves the glorious history of Ancient Township in this region. Speakers urged the Government to extend its initiative for the protection and conservation of such kinds of sites.
Architects, archaeologists, government and non-government officials and Faculty Members of SEU and experts from other universities attended the workshop.
