JU Correspondent :The Geography and Environment Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Saturday organised a day-long workshop titled ‘Geography: Theory and Practice’ here at the campus amid fanfare.At about 10:00am, Prof Dr Md. Samsul Alam coordinated the function where JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farazana Islam addressed the event as Chief Guest and Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Dr Amir Hossain at university’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium.Head of the department Prof Sajed Ashraf Karim delivered welcoming speech with the presence of 350 delegates including 300 students from different departments of the campus. Among others Prof Dr A H M Raihan Sarif, Prof Dr Monzurul Hoque, Prof Dr Shahedur Rashid, Prof Dr Sheikh Tawhidul Islam, Prof Dr Mohammad Nayeem Aziz Ansari, Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam, Rezaul Roni, Lecturer Muhammad Rezaul Rakib, Ebadullah Khan and Md. Anarul Haque Mondol were attended the day-long workshop. Moderated by researchers also former teachers of the department Prof Dr Dara Shamsuddin, Prof Dr Mesbah-us-Saleheen of the event, Chief Guest Prof Farzana said, ‘we all are allied with geographical aspects as it is a discipline of places and the relationships between people and environments and geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across. Later, DU Prof Dr Md Maksudur Rahman, Prof Dr Md Humayun Kabir, JU Prof Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, Associate Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Associate Prof also Ir. Ubaydur Rahaman Siddiki, Assistant Prof Khandakar Hasan Mahmud presented their notes about respective topics
