Works underway to construct CETP for tanneries: Humayun

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun Tuesday said the government took steps to expadite the works for constructing a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) with facilities to treat solid wastes for tanneries in Savar.
“The government is working to complete quickly a CETP with solid waste management facility for the tannery industries in Savar,” an official press release quoted Humayun as saying as a Bangladesh Tanners Association delegation called on him at his office in the ministry. He said the tannery industry had huge potential to attract foreign buyers which was needed to be tapped ensuring quality products. The minister said works were underway to construct two tannery cities in Rajshahi and Chattagram for rapid developmen of the industry. Humayun said the government simulteneously was active to ensure sustainable and environment-friendly industrial productions in the country. Acting industries secretary Mohammad Abdul Halim was present as the delegation called on the minister.
