During the day some are fruit sellers, some are autorickshaw drivers.
As night falls, they become active as the member of organized thieves gang.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said , this cycle basically observes condition of targeted houses during the day in the guise of workers. Realizing the opportunity, they steal at night. Thus, the crime racket has been stealing for about four-five years, RAB officials said.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the organization’s law and media wing, told it in a press conference at the RAB’s media center in Kawranbazar on Saturday after the arrest of four members of the ring.
The arrested persons were identified as Nasir Sheikh (25), Md. Farhad (29), Md. Selim (26), and Md. Azad (38).
RAB recovered two locally-made weapons, four mobile phone sets, Taka 4,800 in cash and four ornaments including melted gold bars stolen from different homes.
Khandaker Al Moin said, “The members of this circle are about 6/7. The empty house is usually their goal.
On December 7, a theft incident was occurred in a flat of Dhanmondi area.
The owner of the flat a London expatriate could see it from the aboard over the IP camera. On the day, a window grill of the house was cut and incident took place there.
At this time, the thieves broke the cupboards and wardrobes and fled with about 20 tolas of gold ornaments and a huge amount of cash.
After the incident, RAB-2 detectives started surveillance activities.
Khandaker Al Moin said, “During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were members of an organized gang of thieves based in Dhanmondi-Mohammadpur area.
All the workers had been committing crime, including theft and robbery, for a long time under the guise of occupation in an organized manner.
According to RAB sources, Nasir is a sanitary mechanic by profession. He has been involved in theft, robbery and other crimes behind his profession for 5/6 years.
Farhad is a fruit seller by profession. He is one of the members of this gang. Selim is a vegetable seller by profession. He is also a regular member of the racket.
