Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Friday urged everyone to work together for the sake of the state to build a prosperous country for the future generation.
“Our country is moving forward. It’ll attain developing country status soon and achieve SDGs by 2030 too. So we need to work together for the welfare of the state,” the minister said while addressing a conference at Jatiya Mohila Sangstha (JMS) auditorium in the capital.
Razzaque said there are many associations in the country who are working for social development. “Work for the welfare of the people, then the standard of living will improve and poverty will be alleviated. Social activists like you can contribute much to the country’s development,” he said.
The minister said once 15-20 percent of the national budget depended on foreign assistance but now its dependence has come down to 2 percent.
“After independence, our national budget was Tk 700-800 crore but now it has risen to Tk 5,23,190 crore. In 2005-6, our development budget was Tk 20,000 crore now it increased to Tk 42,000 crore,” he noted.
Razzaque said the national income has risen to Tk 22,00,000 crore from Tk 4, 80,000 crore. Besides, per capita income has risen to around $ 2,000.
The minister said Bangladesh became a role model under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The country is now self-sufficient in food.
“There’s no space for corruption and terrorism in Bangladesh. The government has announced zero tolerance against these … Our goal is to build a prosperous country and for that we need everyone’s assistance,” he said.
