Work on Mongla economic zone going on in full swing

Work on Mongla Economic Zone (MEZ) is going on in full swing. Sources said, at least 40 percent works has already been completed and the remained works will be completed by July this year.
Located near the bank of river Pashur, the MEZ is constructing on 205 acres of lands near to Mongla Economic Processing Zone (MEPZ) and Mongla Port, the second largest port of the country.
Aiming to encourage rapid economic development and generate more employment opportunities, the government has launched a project to establish economic zones in ten different areas in the country.
In line with the “Vision-2021” envisaged by the government, the project is being implemented to attract foreign companies to develop and operate economic zones as well as ensure balanced development of every region of the country.
The ten areas are Dhaka (Keraniganj), Naryanganj(Bandar and Sonargaon), Cox’s Bazar (Sabrang, Teknaf), Habiganj (Chunarughat), Moulavibazar(Sadar), Chittagong (Mirsharai), Chittagong (Anwara), Feni (Sonagazi) and Bagerhat (Mongla).
While talking to Media, Chairman of Mongla Port Authority Commodore Reaz Uddin Ahmed said after implementing the MEZ, at least 25 thousands job opportunities will be created here.
Besides, Economic growth and speedy activities of Mongla Port will be enhanced.
Government has taken initiative to set up 100 economic zones across the country including two more at Terokhada and Batiaghata area in Khulna, he said adding that the government would provide land, gas lines and power supply to the economic zones.
