State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki said contribution of the women in attaining the country’s self-sufficiency in food production is praiseworthy.
“Agriculture of Bangladesh is still family-centric and the women are playing main role for the agriculture in the family, but it is yet to get institutional acknowledgment,” she said this on Tuesday while inaugurating the Feed the Future Bangladesh Women Empowerment Activity project.
USAID and Winrock International jointly organized the event in a city hotel.
The state minister said the population of the world would be totaled nine billion by 2050, which would require nearly 60 per cent more food production. “So, there is no alternative of women empowerment to supply the huge demand of the food,” she added.
Winrock International Director Martha Saldinger, Feed the Bangladesh Chief Joynab Akhter and Dhaka Ahsania Mission President Kazi Rafikul Alam also spoke on the occasion.
