Hanging body of a housewife was recovered from port city’s Pahartali area on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Nazma Akhtar, 35, wife of Gias Uddin – a resident of Nur Mohammed building of Pahartali’s Baro Quarter area.
The incident took place at the second floor of the building at around 2:40pm.
Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Alauddin Talukdar of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost said Nazma was rushed to CMCH emergency department after she was found in a hanging state in her bedroom at around 3:30pm. On-duty doctors at the hospital declared her dead and sent the body to CMCH morgue for postmortem, said the ASI.
Mainur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pahartali Police Station, said police suspect that Nazma tried to die by suicide over domestic dispute. Police were questioning her husband, who is a workshop owner in Pahartali area, to know the details.
