Zia Trust case: Production warrant issued against Khaleda

The Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka yesterday issued production warrant to produce BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in his court on March 28 and 29 in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Judge Dr Md Akteruzzaman of the makeshift court set up in Bakshibazar area of the old city passed the order after hearing on Tuesday. The day was fixed for hearing arguments on behalf of the prosecution and defence. The proceedings of the day began at 11.05 in the morning on Tuesday.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Model Police Station on August 8, 2011, accusing Khaleda Zia and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources.
Three other accused persons are- Harris Chowdhury, political secretary of the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia between 2001 and 2006, Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) to Harris and Monirul Islam Khan, APS of former Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
Meanwhile, on February 8, the said special court sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and her son Tarique Rahman and four others to 10 years RI. The court also fined the five convicts Tk 2.10 crore in the case.
