A 40– year old woman was gang raped and then her money snatched in Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh on Friday midnight .
The incident took place at Laxmiganj of Ishwarganj on Thursday midnight when she was coming to kishoreganj from Dhaka amid the countrywide shutdown as her husband fell ill ,said Police and locals.
Police arrested Shaheed Miah (32), son of Abdul Motaleb from Mujatia village in Ishwarganj Upazila , a rapist; said Officer-in-charge ( OC)Muklesur Rahman.
The victim woman filed a case with Ishwarganj Police station, accusing five persons including Shaheed.
Quoting the case statement, OC told the New Nation that the woman hailing from Tarail in Kishoreganj work as a household staff in Dhaka.
When the woman reached Laxmiganj on Friday night. four youths led by Sujon (35) of the local waylaid them ,beat up the Sharif and chased him away.
Sujon also snatched the man’s mobile phone.
Later Sujon with the help of his friends named Shaheed,Shafiq and Lal Miah took the woman to a nearby place and Sujon raped her while the others assisted .
They also snatched Tk.9000 from her that she had saved for her husband’s treatment.
Police raiding the area arrested rapist Shaheed and they are continuing drives to arrest the other accused , OC added. The victim was sent to Mymensing medical college Hospital..
