A woman was killed and three others injured as an abandoned mortar shell exploded in Maidherchala area of Ghatail upazila on Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Moyna Khatun, 25, daughter of late Yakub Ali of the area under Digarh union.
Mohammad Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Ghatail Police Station, said Moyna collected several abandoned mortar shells from a firing range in Ghatail Cantonment around 12pm and brought them to home.
Among those there was an unexploded shell which later exploded while she was throwing those on the ground. She died on the spot, police said.
The injured, Joyen Uddin, 60, Abdur Rajjak, 52, of Elenga village in Kalihati upazila and Mohammad Sharif, 40, were admitted to Combined Military Hospital in Ghatail.
