Major city markets not opening before Eid

Although the government has allowed the conditional opening of shops and shopping malls from Sunday, traders’ associations of a number of markets have decided not to open the markets before Eid-ul-Fitr considering the present coronavirus situation.
New Market, Anarkali, Mouchak, Nurjahan Supermarket, New Nurjahan Market, Haji Siddique Mansion and Reza Market in the capital will remain closed.
Eleven shopping malls of Chattogram and all the markets of Sylhet will also remained shut until Eid.
President of New Market Traders’ Association Dewan Aminul Islam said they took the decision after reviewing the present situation as the coronavirus cases continued to rise in the country.
Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association welcomed the decision to keep the shopping malls and markets closed until Eid.
Its President Helal Uddin said when they applied for opening the malls, there was a low rate of infection and death from coronavirus.
