A woman died and at least nine people including eight of a family suffered burns in a gas cylinder explosion at Khatkhal Hajeepara in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj on Saturday noon.
The victim was identified as Sepainessa (62), wife of Abdus Salam.
The others are victim’s sons Kamal Hossion (35), Anowar Hossain (18), daughter Taslima Akhter (24), granddaughter two month-old Umme Habiba, and three years old Umme Hanney and her relatives Pervin Akhter (16)and Juyena (22),Police said.
Condition of four are critical, according to local union chairman.
Quoting locals and Officer-in Charge (OC), Mithamoin Police Station Zakir Rabbani told the New Nation that the gas cylinder exploded when Sepainessa tried to turn on the gas burner around 2.00 pm on Saturday.
Ten of the victims were rushed to Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur from where they were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Sheikh Hasina Burnt Unit.
Another victim Anowar was released after first aid.
UNO and OC in Mithamoin visited the spot, suspended that the incident might have happened because of a leak in the supply pipe of the cylinder.
On Sunday noon, the victim woman Sepainessa died at Sheikh Hasina Burnt Unit in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
