TODAY is the first day of the New Year – ‘2019’. Usually, the New Year brings a new opportunity to everyone for a fresh start along with an exhilarating sense of rejuvenation. It’s the duty of every human being to make New Year’s promises to improve them, and to be better towards others. Today is the time to express our love, gratitude, respect and appreciation to others! It’s also the time to share the spirit of renewal with our friends, family and co-workers!! Certainly, a new year is not just about changing the calendar; it is also about fulfilling the commitment given to others, especially to the nation.
Despite many odds like, increase in road accidents, embarrassing events of question paper leakage, turmoil in banking sector, allegations of human rights violations, nagging crisis over Rohingya refugees, arresting and filing cases against opposition men; the overall situation in the country was apparently good. There was no hartal or such other political programmes. The economic growth was highly satisfactory, about 7 per cent. There were a number of mega-development projects, including Padma Multipurpose Bridge and Metro Rail. Apart from socio-political and economic advancement, our cultural and sports sectors had also shown a shining performance last year. The healthcare and social security services were also excellent. In the last day of the last year, the ruling Awami League won a landslide victory winning in most of the constituencies paving the way to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to form her party-led government for the third consecutive term.
A maiden year is standing before us! We don’t know what will happen. But it is sure that, every day will be challenging to us. And of course, our fight will be against all fundamentalism, corruption and evil doings. The Bangalee nation will start a new journey today coupled with the spirit of attaining prosperity and development. We will have to continuously work hard for our own betterment and get the honour of a developed nation.
