A mobile court here on Sunday sentenced a young man to 15 days’ imprisonment for attempting to marry an underage girl at Ati Nayabazar in Keraniganj upazila on the outskirts of the capital.
The convict was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 28.
On information that a 14-year-old girl was about to be married off at Ati Nayabazar on Sunday afternoon, Upazilla assistant commissiner (land) Anjan Kumar Sarkar went to the function that was arranged at her father’s residence.
The assistant commissioner set up a mobile court at the girl’s house and gave the punishment to the bridegroom.
