Md Zakaria Hossain, Judge of Additional District and Session Judge Court-2, Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Monday, convicted wife and her paramour to be hanged till their death and to pay a fine of Tk.20 thousand each on the charge of killing Al-Amin Shaikh of village Dakkhin Kumariajola within Pnachakaran Union Parishad under Morrelganj Upazila in the district. The learned judge also convicted and sentenced them to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 7 years and to pay a fine of Tk.10 thousand each in default to suffer another imprisonment for 6 months more for concealing the dead body of the deceased after killing him. Saiful Shaikh, one of the accused was acquitted of the charge for want of sufficient evidences. The convicted persons are Fatema Begum (46), wife of the deceased Al-Amin and her paramour Shahjahan Shaikh (60) of the same village.
The prosecution story, in short, is that deceased Al-Amin Shaikh (52) left his son Mohammad Ali’s residence at Keraniganj in Dhaka city in the morning of March 16, 2015 for Morrelganj and since then he was missing. Finding no trace of him his son Mohammad Ali lodged a GD with Keraniganj PS. Later the police ascertained his where about at Morrelganj through trucking mobile phone. Then police took wife Fatema Begum into police custody for interrogation and at one stage in the face of interrogation she confessed that she had killed her husband with the help of her paramour.
Then when she was brought before a court she confessed that she had an illicit connection with her neigbour Shahjahan Shaikh and after returning from Dhaka when the husband was sleeping his wife Fatema Begum and her paramour Shahjahan strangulated him with a pillow and chopped him to death with a sharp knife. According to her statement, police recovered the skeleton of Al-Amin Shaikh from the under ground behind the kitchen within his homestead on June 27 in the same year.
The learned judge after examining the evidences and witnesses found the accused persons guilty and awarded them the aforesaid punishment.
