UNB, Dhaka :BNP-blessed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls Mirza Abbas on Monday unveiled his election manifesto making 98 promises under 10 broad categories to make Dhaka a clean and safe city.His wife Afroza Abbas, who has been campaigning for him since April 9 as he is yet to get bails in various cases, launched his election manifesto at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club.BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah Adarsha Dhaka Andolan, an electoral platform of pro-BNP professionals, convener Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, member secretary Shawkat Mahmud and its members journalist Mahfuz Ullah, Prof Mahbub Ullah and Abdul Hye Sikder were, among others, present.Abbas focused on 10 larger issues-civic service, civic amusement, healthcare, education, easing traffic jam development of communication infrastructures, city environment and waste management, ICT, social service, public safety, and city plan and administration to build an international standard modern city upholding its traditions.Afroza read out the manifesto at the press conference, saying they, if elected, will implement their all plans on priority basis. She demanded deployment of army and installation of CC cameras at all polling stations to ensure a fair balloting. “The government won’t deploy army if it wants to hold another stage-managed election as they did during January 5. It will put the army on election duty if it is sincere to hold competitive polls.”She alleged that they are being attacked and harassed while carrying out electioneering.”I hailed from Pabna. I came to Dhaka as a daughter-in-law. Now it’s your responsibility to ensure my security and protect my dignity,” she said pointing at the voters of Dhaka.Hannan Shah said, a mass wave has been created in favour of Abbas despite various obstacles to his election campaign. “Abbas will win with a big margin in the polls if people can cast their votes.”He urged BNP leaders and activists to guard polling stations on April 28 so that the ruling party cannot manipulate the polls.Replying to a question how the election manifesto will be implemented, Prof Imajuddin said people will mange money for carrying out good works for them.
