Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall health and can help you prevent and control many diseases and conditions. If you are underweight/overweight you are at higher risk of developing serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers. That is why maintaining a healthy weight is so important: It helps you lower your risk for developing these problems, helps you feel good about yourself, and gives you more energy to enjoy life.
Your ultimate weight-loss goal should be your health. When you make strides toward a healthy weight, you’ll feel better physically and emotionally, have a better chance of avoiding disease, and even live longer. We all know that weight remains a topic that relates to everyone, yet no one wants to talk about it.
In the recent decades, weight has quickly become an extremely prevalent issue not only among our society, but also in healthcare, media, pop culture and government. Striving for a healthy weight can make you feel better and lower your risk for diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease and sleep apnoea. So get started on a weight-loss plan today.
But there are also many more meaningful reasons to work toward achieving a healthy weight, if you’re not there already. You’ll feel better and have more energy. Extra weight puts more pressure on your joints and can lead to arthritis, adiet high in Tran’s fats and sugars and low in whole grains is more likely to damage your arteries and may contribute to heart disease. When you eat fresh fruit and vegetables, leans protein, and whole grains, and cut out foods high in sugar and Trans fats (such as packaged baked goods and fried foods), you’re more likely to lose weight and lower your risk of heart disease. Almost across the board, people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight, and more than half are obese.
Although sleep apnoea (a disorder in which people stop breathing for prolonged periods when they’re sleeping) is associated with being overweight, experts say that losing 10 percent of your weight can make a significant improvement in the severity of the disorder.

Some studies suggest that abdominal fat plays a role in the development of insulin resistance and inflammation, an over activity of the immune system that has been implicated in heart disease, diabetes, and even some cancers.
The more active you are, the more calories you burn, which means that less energy will be available for storage as fat.
Being underweight can be problematic, too. Again, if you don’t have regular periods, your ovulation is hampered.
And a recent study suggests that severely underweight women (less than 18 BMI) are 72 per cent more likely to miscarry.
What’s more, during pregnancy, underweight moms-to-be run the risk of having a premature or underweight baby, which could lead to long-term complications?
The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight isn’t about short-term dietary changes. It’s about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses. Staying in control of your weight contributes to good health now and as you age.
What does this mean for the health of our nation? Nothing good.
Obesity-related diseases are ‘implicated’ in more than a quarter million death every year.
How serious is the problem of obesity? It’s the most serious problem we are facing today.
What is the first step in getting healthy weight? Where does a person go for help?
There are several places an individual can go for help. That needs to be ruled out right away.
Once you’ve done that, you can either work with your doctor or work with a registered dietician or seek help with some of the commercial programs that are available, which can be very helpful.
And there’s even better news. You don’t have to look like a model in a magazine to get all the benefits of being at a healthy weight.
Losing just 10 to 15 pounds can make you significantly healthier. We should focuses on one clear message ‘For Your Health.’ It’s a simple, but powerful message that needs to be heard across the country. So, the primary message I want to send “It’s about your health!” n
