The police are working to find out the parents and relatives of the newborn baby girl who was left abandoned in a toilet of the Dhaka Shishu Hospital on Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Janey Alam Munshi told The New Nation that they were collecting CCTV footages and closely monitoring the issue. Till now, “No one has claimed the newborn.”
“We are yet to find any clue regarding the child’s biological parents,” he said.
The newborn is currently in the hospital with good health condition after admission.
Meanwhile, the police and doctors of Dhaka Shishu Hospital have said that hundreds of people have showed their interest to adopt the newborn baby girl.
They have already been receiving a number of calls from people interested in adopting the newborn baby girl from different parts of the country.
Janey Alam said, “People have phoned hundreds of times to know about her and to adopt.”
“I, personally, have received more than 100 phone calls from people about the abandoned newborn. Everyone wants to adopt the child. We are investigating and assessing the legal process for adoption.”
“We are yet to take any decision to give the child to anyone to take care of her,” the OC said.
A family member of a patient of the hospital spotted the newborn lying on the floor of the toilet on Tuesday, and informed ward officials. Later, the three-day old baby was admitted to the hospital.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Shishu Hospital’s Deputy Director Dr Mohammad Abu Tayeb said, “Condition of the baby in normal. She is doing quite well. We are taking care of her and providing her with everything she needs.”
“Several people have also brought food for the baby,” he said.Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) Biplob Kumar Sarker has posted a status on Facebook regarding the matter.
In the Facebook post, DC Biplob urged people with any information about the child’s parents to come forward and contact Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
