Staff Reporter :
The High Court on Thursday wanted to know what legal action has been taken against madrasa teacher Hefez Yahia who was seen mercilessly beating one of his students in a recent video that went viral on social media.
The court asked the authorities concerned to submit a report on it by March 14 describing the detailed action taken against the madrasa teacher from Chattogram.
Deputy commissioner and superintendent of Chattogram and Officer in Charge of Hathazari Police Station have been asked to comply with the order.
The respondents have also been asked to provide information on whether the victim’s family had been under pressure by any party or whether the abused child had been treated or whether the child’s family had been given security.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order on a Suo Moto (voluntary) move considering some published reports on the issue. Deputy attorney general Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar placed the newspaper reports regarding the incident before the bench for necessary orders.
Abdullah Al Mahmud later said, “Apart from the issue of legal action, the court also wanted to know from the respondents whether the accused teacher has been arrested or not, and whether he has been dismissed from that madrasa.”
After examining the compliance report, the HC bench will pass necessary directives, DAG Bashar added.
Meanwhile, police already have arrested the teacher, sources said.
The arrestee named as Hafez Yahia is a teacher of Hefz department of Markajul Quran Islami Academy in the upazila.
