ICC U-19 CWC: West Indies back with 262-run win against Fiji

Shamar Springer’s century helped the West Indies to back in winning form in their Group-C 2nd match of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, after a 61-run loss in the first match against England, securing an emphatic 262-run victory against all-loser Fiji in their Group-C match at MA Aziz Stadium on Sunday.
Replying to a formidable 340, Fiji finished the innings for a meager 78 for all in 27.3 overs with Peni Vuniwaqa topscoring 29 off 49 balls including five boundaries.
Skipper Saimoni Tuitoga (12 off 23b; 1×4) was another double digit scorer for Fiji.
Delivering seven overs each, Gidron Pope grabbed four wickets for 24 runs while Alzarri Joseph took three wickets for 15 runs. Kirstan Kallicharan took two wickets for 21 runs in 6.3 overs.
Sent in to bat first, West Indies scored 340/7 in 50 overs spurred by Shamar Springer’s century of 106 runs.
The side also boosted by the 5th wicket partnership of SK Springer and Jyd Goolie to collect 157.
Springer faced 23 overs to amass 106 runs in style. Goolie was caught by T Veitacini off Cakacaka Tikoisuva while the team was 297/5 in 45.3 overs.
Springer confronted 78 balls to crack 10 boundaries and four sixes before being bowled out by C Tikoisuva at 333/6 in 49.1 overs.
Opening bat, the West Indies displayed an impressive batting as their opening pair between Gidron Pope and Tevin Imlach contributed 120 runs in 17.4 overs.
GD Pope hammered 76 off 77 balls featuring 12 boundaries and was trapped lbw by C Tikoisuva.
Goolie was out for 66 off 75 balls including five four and one six while TA Imlach added 36 runs.
