Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque believes their first-ever win against New Zealand will breed confidence and give them the belief to do well in the away series.
“I got the captaincy at a very tough moment. I always dreamed of winning against big teams. But that belief has to be visible. I think winning the first Test match was important for us to believe on our capability of winning overseas,” Mominul told reporters on Tuesday.
”We will one day win a Test series abroad. So, getting that belief, for myself, the team and even for you (media) was a significant step. ‘There are many positives (from this series) and I always stress on a combined team effort, which I always believe brings us wins,” he said.
Mominul was disappointed with the team performance in the second Test but said he was proud of how they dedicated themselves in overseas conditions.
Bangladesh failed to replicate their first match effort in the second Test, as a result, they suffered a heavy defeat by an innings and 117 runs. However, the skipper was happy for the performance in the overseas condition.
“Very proud, especially playing overseas. I am really happy with the first Test, but the second Test was disappointing. It was very challenging for us after winning the first Test. Playing overseas depends on mindset. We have some good positive things,” said Mominul.
Mominul heaped praises on pacer Ebadot Hossain for his six-for in the first Test and Liton Das, who struck his first away century.
“Ebadot bowled really well, and Liton played beautifully. When he batted, it never looked like a difficult pitch,” he added.
New Zealand levelled the two-match series with an innings win in Christchurch, a result that couldn’t take away the sheen from Bangladesh’s historic win at Mt Maunganui.
