Welfare activities of LGSP-II for poor in Gaibandha

Welfare activities are being done for the people particularly the rural poor ones by the Second Local Government Support Project (LGSP-II) of LGED in the district from 2007.
According to sources the LGSP started across the country in July, 2007 for the first time and continued till June, 2011 and many development activities were done during the period. Later, LGSP-II was launched from July, 2011 and since then, it has been continuing in all the 82 unions of all the seven upazilas in the district and has created positive impacts to the people, office sources said.
Under this project, many development works including bridge and culvert construction, school bags and sewing machines distribution, providing agri inputs to the marginal farmers are being implemented, deputy director of local government section of the DC office M. Mokhlesur Rahman said.
Besides, other activities including annual audit, open budget meeting, ward meeting, revenue collection, and annual report preparation are being done by the union parishad (UP) under the project regularly, he also said.
On Wednesday, 27 sewing machines worth of TK 3.05 lakh were distributed to the poor families of Udakhali union of Fulchhari upazila of the district under the project.
The beneficiaries in their instance reactions thanked the government for providing them with sewing machines which would help them involve in income generating activities to lead their families without economical troubles.
Sub assistant engineer of LGED Begum Mahmuda Rozi, union parishad (UP) chairman Abdul Baki Sarker, UP members, invited guests, and social workers including journalists were present on the occasion.
