Dhaka North City Corporation will start a weeklong special drive on Sunday to control Aedes mosquitoes to curb the spreading of dengue fever among the city dwellers.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said it at an awareness campaign against the Aedes mosquito in the city’s Uttara on Saturday.
The drive will be conducted by separate teams in 10 zones under DNCC, the Mayor said.
Mobile courts led by executive magistrates will take immediate legal action against the liable persons upon finding Aedes larvae, DNCC Mayor said.
“This year the number of dengue patients is lower compared to the previous years and it is also lower than the neighbouring countries,” he said.
“Dengue situation in the DNCC areas remained under control as we took effective measurs,” the Mayor said.
Mayor Atiqul Islam visited Ward No. 50 on Saturday as the number of dengue patients was higher in the area, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the Mayor’s visit, a mobile court awarded fine of Tk100,000 to the owner of an under-construction building in Ward-50 after it detected Aedes larvae there.
Besides, during the campaign in the Nikunja area, two cases were filed with Khilkhet police station against two building owners after finding Aedes larvae there.
The Mayor said that their drive would be continuing until the dengue threat is eliminated.
