A week-long Barisal Divisional Book Fair organised by Barisal district administration in association with National Book Centre (NBC) and Bangladesh Gayan O Srijonshil Prokashok Samity started on Sunday at Barisal Zilla School ground.
Asaduzzaman Noor, minister for cultural affairs, inaugurated the book fair, While Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan, DIG Barisal Police Range, Bangladesh Police, SM Ruhul Amin, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Md. Nazrul Islam; director NBC attended the programme as special guests.
Dr. Gazi. Md. Saifuzzaman presided over the inaugural ceremony of the book fair.
In inaugural speech cultural minister said book is the medium of enlightening the humanity and history.
Without enlightening the people, especially the new generation, we could not create good patriotic citizenship and perfect human being, the minister added.
Habit of reading book could help in preventing superstitions and militancy, the cultural minister said.
Total 51 publishers including Bangla Academy taking part in the book fair.
Cultural functions, recitations, drama, different types of competitions also arranged in every afternoon of the fair-day.
Fair would be continued May 12, 2017. Samittee supported the programme.
