General Secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Md Abu Nayeem Shohag said, ” We want to play three World Cup Qualifiers 2022 matches at our home ground.”
A question is arisen where will be the rest of the matches of World Cup Qualifiers 2022 and Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 held.
Bangladesh, Qatar, Oman, Afghanistan and India been billed in Group-E of the World Cup Qualifiers 2022 and Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023.
It is noteworthy that Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA, the highest body of world football postponed all the matches of Group-E due to coronavirus pandemic.
Later, Bangladesh played their away match against Qatar in Doha, the capital city of Qatar on December 4.
But Oman gave a letter to AFC and in that letter they showed their interest to stage rest of the matches of the World Cup Qualifiers 2022 and Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023. But BFF acknowledged the AFC that Bangladesh team are not interested to play Oman. Besides, BFF wants to host the rest of the home matches of the World Cup Qualifiers at their home ground.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan refused to play against Bangladesh, which was scheduled to be held in Bangladesh on March 25.
Later, AFC sent letters to Bangladesh, India, Oman, Qatar, Afghanistan. They asked those countries to clear their opinion to play rest of the matches of the WC Qualifiers 2022. They asked to clear their stand by February 10. After getting the opinion of those countries AFC will disclose their decision.
If the matches will not be held in March, AFC will arrange the matches at the central venues because AFC have to complete all the Qualifiers matches by June.
Bangladesh earned one point playing five matches. Bangladesh made a 1-1 draw with India, in Kolkata, the former capital city of India. Bangladesh tasted defeats in rest of the four matches.
Qatar took the top position in the points table bagging 16 points from six matches. Oman took the second spot with 12 points, while Afghanistan took the third position with four points and India obtain the fourth position with three points.
