Chittagong Bureau :Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, we want development, peace in the country and democracy not any terrorism and militancy . She said my relations with Chittagong is the relation of my soul. She also said Bangladesh will turned into a mid-income country by 2012 and a developed country in south Asia by 2041 next. She disclosed it while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the construction work of the longest flyover in Chittagong from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar as Chief Guest. She said though I live in Dhaka but my souls relations with Chittagong and I want Chittagong to be a second capital of the country and as such our govt is working for that motives. The prime minister sought cooperation of the dwellers of Chittagong during the construction period of the flyover and reiterated his pledge to work for the overall development of the port city as I committed before election . Prime Minister inaugurates the construction work of the flyover through electronic switch device at Muradpur point of the bridge yesterday afternoon. Chittagong Development Authority sources said, Prime Minister laid foundation stone of the flyover on January 2, 2012 aimed at mitigating the continuous congestion on this road and joining with Asian highway . Earlier the distance of the flyover determined from Muradpur to GEC crossing but later following the advice of the Consulting Firms the distance extended upto Lalkhan Bazar instead of GEC crossing. Finally the cost of the 5 kilometers long flyover fixed at Tk.462 crores . Sources said Max-Rankeen JV of China has been awarded with the construction work of the flyover. Signing ceremony of the contract already held in last month. The flyover is expected to be completed by 2016, CDA sources said. In this connection, CDA chairman Abdus Salam said Chittagong will be turned as a most modern city in the South Asia following the ongoing development work of the city. He said after completion of the flyover, the traffic congestions of the city will be eased by 50% in future. Mentionable that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrives Chittagong yesterday. She arrived at Chittagong Cantonment by a special helicopter at about 10 am and there she distributed National Standard Award to 3 Battalions of East Bengal Regiment for their outstanding services for the country. The commanders of these Battalions received the National Flag from the hands of the prime Minister, sources said.
