Confession: ‘We killed Tobarak to steal his valuables’

Two accused yesterday (Sunday) confessed to magistrates admitting that they killed 70-year-old businessman Tobarak Hossain in his Tejgaon flat on December 25 with intention for stealing his valuable items.
Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded the statement of Imon Hossain, 20, at his chamber while Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed of the CMM Court recorded statement of Golam Rabbi, 24, in his chamber.
Syed Iftekhar Hossain, Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police and Investigation Officer of the case, produced the two accused in their chambers for the recording of their statements.
The two accused gave similar confessional statements to two separate magistrates where they said that they along with others bought a knife, scotch tape and rope from Chawkbazar and a crowbar from Mohakhali area on Tuesday as part of the murder plot. The following morning, they went to the Tobarak’s house and entered the building when its security guard went to a mosque to offer Fazr prayers.
The killers entered victim’s bedroom and tied him and his house help Saiful, before stabbing the victim. They later broke an almirah with the crowbar and looted cash and other valuables. They left Dhaka after sharing the valuables, court sources said.
After recording their confessional statements, the two accused were sent to Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka.
Meantime, another Dhaka court on Sunday placed – Sohel Pradhan, 29, Babul Pradhan, 28, and Al Amin Khondkar Rihan, 21, on a four-day remand each after they were placed before the court with a 10-day remand prayer. All the five accused were arrested from Narayanganj and Cumilla on Saturday.
Tobarak, a businessman by profession, used to live in his own flat at Shanti Niketon of Tejgaon. On Wednesday, masked men entered the flat and stabbed Tobarak.
