The spokesperson of the protesting Jahangirnagar University students and also the teacher of the Department of Philosophy Professor Raihan Raine has claimed that there is enough evidence of misdeeds against the varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam.
He came up with the claim as the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the protesters would have to face punishment if they fail to prove their allegations.
“If they fail to prove their allegations, they will be punished for bringing false accusations… we will definitely do this. Because, I can’t tolerate that the academic activities of the varsity will remain closed for days after days,” she said.
Professor Raine said: “We have been demanding an investigation from the beginning. But the VC decided against investigation because if a probe is ordered she would be found guilty and had to leave her post.”
He mentioned that there is enough evidence of graft against her (VC), especially confessions she made at the media. The news of financial irregularities in the media could be produced as evidence, said Professor Raiyan.
“If the existing facts are analysed impartially, the corruption
and financial malpractices of the VC will be proved.”
Jahangirnagar University campus has been rocked by protests for the last three months over allegations of corruption against the VC.
On November 5, protesting teachers and students came under attack by The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men, leaving at least 35 injured. After this incident, the authorities declared closed the varsity for an indefinite period asking the students to vacate halls. The administration also imposed bans on rallies, processions and meetings on the campus. But defying the restrictions, the student movement is going on.
