Staff Reporter :After experiencing heat for the last few days, dwellers of the Dhaka city heaved a sigh of relief, as a brief rain in several parts of the capital greatly cooled down the day temperature on Monday noon. Many commuters, however, faced sufferings because the rainfall also led to waterlogging in different parts of the city, causing traffic disruptions. The rainfall inundated the streets of Shantinagar, Mouchak, Malibag, Arambagh, Motijheel, Kamalapur, Rampura, Banasree, Dhanmondi and some other parts of the city. The heart of the administration– Bangladesh Secretariat- even faced waterlogging, hampering the normal daily works of government officials. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the rain was accompanied by thunders and gusts of wind. During the rain, a tree was uprooted in Central Shaheed Minar area and it crashed down on a car. No one was, however, injured in the incident. An official of the Meteorological Department said that this time active monsoon is persisting for a long time. However, the spell is likely to last until the middle of October. Fears are on that a low in the Bay of Bengal might turn into a cyclone and strike Bangladesh’s coast at the latter half of October, he said.According to the Met Office, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Barisal and Chittagong divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions today (Tuesday).Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, Met Office said. Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
