The government has increased safe water supply to 88 per cent across the country aimed at ensuring safe water to common people.State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, on behalf of his minister Syed Asharaful Islam told this in the House, while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Habibur Rahman on Monday.
Ranga said the government has checked 50 lakh tube wells at 271 upazilas to identify arsenic, of which 14.5 lakh tube wells were found arsenic contaminated.
“The government has ensured a safe water source for every 93 people in rural area and installed 1,45,000 arsenic free water sources in arsenic affected areas,” the state minister said.
Besides, the government has set up 9,000 different types of water sources at Aila and Sidr affected areas as emergency arrangement, he said.
Ranga said the government has also examined the quality of 1,30,000 water sources across the country and existing water sources of 62,000 primary schools.
“We have also examined water sources and arranged safe water for students of 12,000 primary schools across the country,” he informed the House.
