Water crisis in the port city has worsened from very beginning of the summer season .
The crisis of water is being experienced in different areas of the city specifically in slum areas . Different sources said less supply of WASA water and interrupted power supply causes this crisis. CWASA could not meet the full demands of water for the last few years and the lifting of water through deep well could not be affected due to frequent load shedding in the city.
The scenario of water procurement from city hydrants is a regular phenomenon and the dwellers of Pahartali Jawtala Colony, Halishahar , Bakalia ,Chandgaon severely suffering water crisis. While talking with a dwellers of Jawtala Halima Begum told that water supplied by WASA in a limited quantities once in a day and we manage two days with one day’s water.

While talking to CWASA Managing Director Engr AKM Fazlullah told that the total demand of the city dwellers is 50 crore liters per day but we are able to supply only 21 crores liters and which decrease to 19-20 crores liter in dry season. He said the water crisis in the port city will not be solved before 2021, he added.
A water vendor Md.Rafique told this reporter that they procure water from CCC deep well at a Tk.40 per drum and sold out these water to the dwellers at Tk.150 -300 ranging the distance of supply spot. He said the demands of water goes double during summer season.
