Water crisis grips city dwellers

Acute water crisis in many areas in the capital city has mounted people’s sufferings.
The residents of Mirhazirbagh area of the old part of the city carried out a protest rally and blocked road in Dolairpar point on Wednesday.
 “We have been suffering from water crisis for many days. The women, children and older persons suffer more during the hot weather that paralised our normal life. The authority remains indifferent to the water crisis.
So, we carried out the procession today demanding solution to the problem,” said Ahmed Ali, a resident of the area who took part in the rally.
People of different ages were found participating in the rally.
The residents from nearby Gandaria also said they also suffer from water shortages.
 “We have very little amount of water in our pumps. Some days we get no water. How we provide water to our tenants?” said, Abdul Malek, a home owner of Satish Sarker Road in the area.  
Besides, the people from Malibagh Chowdhury para (Matir Masjid area), Rampura, Hazipara, Khilgaon, Basabo, Mughda, Kakrail, Maghbazar alleged that they were suffering from severa water crisis for a long time.
A resident from Chowdhury para said they were facing water crisis as the WASA failed to supply them water.
“WASA’s apathy has mounted our sufferings,” he said.
“We repeatedly submitted applications to the WASA. We met with the chief engineer of WASA at his Karwan Bazar office but the problem remain unresolved though he assured us of resolving it,” he further said.
