 A total of 300 freedom fighters (FFs) and their family members of Sadar upazila got blankets collected from well off FFs of the district on Monday.
A simple function was also held at the office of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Shangshad (BMS), district unit command, at DB Road of the town.
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, MP, formally handed over the blankets to the FFs and their family members as the chief guest and Nazmul Haque Prodhan, MP, was present as the special guest.
With Mominul Haque Jubel, commander of BMS, district unit command, in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Sadar upazila commander Ali Akbar and FF Enamul Haque Tuku.
Speaking at the function Information Minister said the War of Liberation was the political war which was achieved after nine months fight with the Pak occupation forces sacrificing 30 lakh martyred and losing the chastity of two lakh women.
Mentioning the present government as FFs friendly, the minister said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took initiative to increase their honorarium to TK 10,000 per month from TK 5,000 in near future.
He also urged the FFs to get united again to foil all sorts of conspiracies by the anti liberation forces so that Bangladesh could be turned into a middle income country by 2021 imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War.
A large number of FFs and their family members coming from far flung areas of the upazila were present on the occasion.
Rangpur Correspondent reports: Blankets were distributed among the vision-impaired and autistic students of Rangpur Dristi and Buddhi Protibondhi School in the city at a ceremony there on Sunday afternoon.
Noted social worker Alhaj Mokbular Rahman attended the blanket distribution ceremony as the chief guest with General Secretary of the school governing committee Ashique Iqbal in the chair.
President of the advisory committee of the educational institution Mir Anisul Haque Payara, its Vice-president Saidur Alam, Assistant Secretary of the school governing committee AG Mokfubar Rahman Sweet, its member Mahbubar Rahman, were present.
The chief guest distributed the quality blankets among the vision-impaired and autistic students of the school in the ceremony jointly moderated by school officials Sadhon Roy and Amjad Hossain.
