Walton plans to set up compressor factory

Staff Reporter :Walton, a local electronics, electrical, automobiles and home appliance products manufacturing company, is setting up a state-of-the-art compressors factory at Chandra in Gazipur, company sources said. “The construction work of the factory is now going on in full swing and it is likely to go into production at the beginning of 2016,” Ashraful Ambia, chief engineer of the project, told The New Nation yesterday. He said, the factory will manufacture about 20 lakh compressors annually, of which about 10 lakh pieces will be used in the country’s refrigerator and air-conditioner manufacturing sector, and rest of 10 lakh compressors will be exported to different countries. Ashraful Ambia mentioned that the Walton authority has taken the initiative to make the country self-reliant in the field of refrigerator and air-conditioner manufacturing. “We have taken all-out preparations to manufacture compressors. The compressors that will be manufactured in the factory will be high quality, sustainable and power saving compared to other compressors in the global market, claimed Sarwar Hossain, a senior engineer of the project.He also said that compressors that are now being incorporated in the Walton brand refrigerators are imported from foreign countries.After completion of the factory, Bangladesh is expected to emerge a key player in the field of refrigerator and air-conditioner manufacturing in the world, he opined.Sources said, the company has already completed designs of compressors in keeping the environment and other all situations in mind. It will be a composite factory as there will be steel, zinc, aluminum, copper casting and foundry combination system in the factory, side-by-side heavy testing and metal processing system.
