VP Nur among 5 acquitted, warrant against Mamun

The Dhaka Cyber tribunal has acquitted five people, including former Vice-President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), in a case filed under the Digital Security Act with Kotwali Police Station.
At the same time, an arrest warrant has been issued against Hasan Al Mamun, the former convener of the Student Rights Council.Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Tribunal passed the order on Tuesday on a charge sheet filed by the police.
Earlier, a case was registered with Kotwali Police Station last year under the rape, assistance in rape and Digital Security Act.
After accepting the chargesheet, the tribunal acquitted five accused and issued arrest warrants in the name of one.
Khademul Islam and Sirajul Islam were the lawyers for the accused.
Meanwhile, PP Nazrul Islam Shamim of the tribunal represented the state.
The acquitted accused are former VP of Ducsu Nurul Haque, former Joint Convener of the Student Rights Council Saiful Islam (28), Nazmul Hasan Sohag (26), Nazmul Huda (25) and Abdullahil Baki, 23. All of them were students of Dhaka University.
Zobayer Ahmed, lawyer of Hasan Al-Mamun, told the New Nation that we have nothing to do right now if accused Mamun doesn’t surrender to the court.
It may be mentioned that on September 22 last year, a student of DU filed a case with the Kotwali police station. The case alleges that after the abduction, the girl was raped in mutual cooperation and humiliated through social media.
On June 8, the investigation officer of the case, Kotwali Police Inspector Wahiduzzaman filed the chargesheet in the court.
Nazmul Hasan Sohag, Joint Convener of the Student Rights Council, was charged with rape under Section 9 (1) of the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Act.
And Former convener Hassan Al Mamun was also charged under Section 29 (1) of the Digital Security Act.
