The authorities of different public and private educational institutions in the city on Sunday staged anti-militancy demonstrations with a call for resisting terrorism and militancy.
Educational institutions came up with the anti-militancy move on their respective campuses in line with the directives of University Grants Commission (UGC) to stop the spread of militancy at educational institutions across the country.
Thousands of students, teachers and officials of different public universities including Chittagong University (CU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) brought out rallies, formed human chains and staged demonstrations to resist the menace.
Besides, public universities, the authorities of different private universities including Premier University, University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), Southern University, Southern Medical College, East Delta University and Port City International University arranged similar programmes.
Addressing an anti-militancy demonstration at CUET, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam said, militancy must be rooted out from the country with all strength for protecting the existence of independent and sovereign Bangladesh.
He said Bangladesh is a secular country and there is no room for militants. “Militants have no religion and those who are killing people in the name Islam are not only defaming Islam but also damaging image of the country”, he added.
 Meanwhile, International Islami University of Chittagong formed human chain at Kumira main campus on Monday in protest of militancy and terrorism in the country . The program of human chain against the militancy arranged across the country as directed by University grants commission.
 Teachers, students, officials, employees of all status of IIUC participated the human chain spontaneously. Pro-VC Dr. Md.Delwar Hossain said people of Bangladesh are peace-loving and loyal to religions but not aggressive and conservative. He said militancy and terrorism are the diseases for the nation and all should work unitedly to get rid of these deadly diseases. Dean of Business Faculty Prof. Dr.Ahmed Sobhani presided over the programme .
 Among others, Dean of Arts faculty Prof. Abu Bakkar Rafique, Dean of Shariah Faculty Prof. Giasuddin Hafiz, Chief incharge of Female Academic complex Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Proctor Prof. Shafiuddin Madani, Students Affairs Division Director AJM Obaidullah were present in the human chain among others.
Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology vows to fight a gainst terrorism and militancy unitedly irrespective of caste and creed . The declaration pronounced on Monday at the human chain and rally arranged at CUET campus .
 The rally followed by human chain headed by the Vice chancellor Dr. Rafiqul Alam held from 11 am to 12 noon in the campus . The program of human chain against the militancy and terrorism arranged across the country as directed by University grants after completion of one month of the attack in Gulshan restaurant. With the slogan of Love Country and Resist Militancy’ .the rally was observed .
 After end of the human, the rally paraded the university campus uttering slogans against militancy and terrorism, a CUET sources said. Among others, Director of students welfare Dr. Mohd. Moshiul Hoque, Dean of Civil engineering faculty Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali, Registrar Prof.Dr. Farukuzzaman chowdhury, Head of Mechinical engineering deptt Prof. Dr.Sajal Chandra Banik, Provost Prof. Dr. Abdur Rashid, President of Teachers association Dr. Md. Abdur rahman Bhuyia, President of Officers Association Dr. Mir Muttaza Reza Khan, President Employees Associastion Jamaluddin, on behalf of students Syed Imam Baker and Muntasir Sarwar spoke on the occasion.
