Campaign on Vitamin A Plus capsule has begun in all the seven upazilas of the district yesterday morning aimed at reducing child mortality rate and building healthy nation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Paul formally inaugurated the campaign on the premises of Gaibandha Municipality around 8 am through feeding the babies capsules as the chief guest.
Civil Surgeon(CS) Dr. Amir Ali, deputy director of department of family planning Dewan Morshed Kamal and Sadar upazila health and family planning officer Dr. ABM Abu Hanif were present as the special guests.
Mayor of the municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon presided over the ceremony while district nutrition support officer of UNICEF Mohammad Kamruzzaman attended the ceremony as the moderator.
DC Gautam Chandra Paul urged the officials and the employees including the volunteers to be punctual and dedicated to make the campaign a total success in the district to help build a healthy nation.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Health experts at a ceremony here yesterday said Vitamin A increases disease resistant capacity of the under five babies, reduces their death risks, prevents night blindness and other diseases.
They came up with the opinion at the inaugural ceremony of the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 5 August- 2017 (first round) at Guptapara in the city.
Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu formally launched the campaign by administering Vitamin A Plus Capsules to a number of under five babies as the chief guest.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mozammel Hossain presided over the ceremony.
Medical officer of Rangpur Divisional Surveillance Team of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Shamim Hossain, chief health officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and its Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum also addressed.
Dr Shamim Hossain narrated importance of providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under five baby to prevent their various diseases for healthier growth.
Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz laid emphasis on providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under-five baby to increase their disease resistant capacities for further reducing infant mortality rate and preventing night blindness.
Dr Mozammel Hossain said Vitamin A Plus Capsule has no side effect in general and asked the parents not to become afraid and contact the health officials concerned if their babies would show vomiting tendency after taking the capsule.
“Supplementation of Vitamin A also reduces 30 percent measles-related and 33 percent diarrhoea-related death risks of the under five babies,” Dr Hossain added.
Mayor Jhantu asked the parents, teachers, public representatives and civil society members to make the campaign successful.
According to RpCC sources, 675 supervisors and volunteers are providing Vitamin A Plus Capsules to 1.26 lakh under five babies at 295 outreach centres in addition to eights satellite teams in all 33 wards of the city yesterday.
