Zia Trust case: Khaleda gets time to give her statement

The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Sunday granted BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia petition seeking time allowing her to give her statement on her defence in the Zia Charitable Trust Graft case. Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadear of the fixed March 2 to allow the BNP leader give her statement in the case Under Section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The special court set up on the Government Alia Madrasa playground in the capital’s Bashibazar
area took the decision responding to a petition, filed on behalf of Khaleda Zia, by her lawyers, after hearing. Begum Khaleda Zia was not present in the courtroom.
According to the charge sheet of the Zia Charitable Trust Graft case, and BNP Chief and three others abused their official position to collect Tk 6.19 crore for the trust during the BNP-led government’s tenure between 1991 and 1996 and this case was filed with Tejgaon Model Police Station accusing four including Khaleda Zia.
