Jatiya Oikyafront (JOF), a key political alliance, has prepared the draft election manifesto for the upcoming national polls, with a vision of transforming the country into a ‘welfare state’ through changes in the system of governance.
The manifesto will be unveiled on Sunday in a media briefing, party insiders said.
“The key focus of the manifesto would be establishing a exploitation free, just and welfare state to ensure people’s wellbeing and ownership over the country,” Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, one of the key leaders of JOF, told The New Nation on Friday.
He said, if people vote for Jatiya Oikyafront, it would bring necessary constitutional amendments for establishing the welfare state, a concept of government in which the state or a well-established network of social institutions plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well-being of citizens.
Oikyafront was formed on October 13, with the aim to ensure a fair and credible election.
“The manifesto will also emphasize on good governance, justice, and freedom of expression and elimination of
politicization in the civil administration,” said Dr Zafrullah.
He said, the manifesto will have a framework on abolition of individual-centric ruling system for establishing checks and balances of powers between the President and the Prime Minister, as well as decentralization of power.
“We have drafted the manifesto in line with Oikyafront’s 11-point objectives and Vision 2030 of BNP,” he added.
“The election manifesto put forth the vision for a new Bangladesh, which does not belong to any empress or king. People are the real owners of the country,” Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Convener of Nagorik Oikya, a partner of Jatiya Oikyafront, told The New Nation.
He said the manifesto of the party has highlighted the necessity of state responsibility for education, health, public transportation and social security, and an equitable polity based on social justice, a coordinated market economy and also continuity of the private sector in investments.
“The election manifesto would also propose necessary policy reforms in agricultural, education and health care sectors, quota in government job and age limit (up to 35 years) and public transport system to ensure road safety,” he added.
When asked, Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, if people vote for the alliance, it will continue the mega development projects taken by the incumbent government.
