Virtual Court started functioning in Barishal amid protest and boycott by lawyers.
This Court started on May 11 and till finling this report hearing of 18 cases out of 67 bail prayer held and 21 accused granted bail, said Mahibul Hasan, chief judicial magistrate of Barishal.
The other petitions deferred to next dates, confirmed Sumon Howladar, bench clerk of CJM court of Barishal.
However, lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA) consisting with 967 members protesting functioning virtual court sent fax to Chief Justice and Ministry of Law and Judiciary demanding cancellation of the newly introduce system, said Advocate Afjal Hossain, President of Barishal DBA and Vice-President of city unit Awami League (AL).
He said, the virtual court system introduced without any preparation and training. More than 80 percent members of DBA are not familiar with the system and most of them have no access to the system.
Besides, we could not enter in the app named `my court’ introduce for this system, Advocate Afzal said.
If this system will continue functioning then hundreds of advocate’s clerk (mohuri) would become unemployed by losing their professional business.
About the hearing of the bail petitions Advocate Afzal said those were submitted earlier before taking the decision. We are not opposing the decision of introducing virtual court, but it needs prior training, motivation, preparation and awareness of the both advocates and justice seeking people.
