BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday voiced concern over the growing incidents of torture on women, saying violence against women has turned epidemic in the country.
“Though our society has progressed in many ways, women are still being subjected to various forms of exploitation. Bangladesh’s position on violence against women at the highest level in the world,” she said in a message. The BNP chief issued the message on the occasion of the 136th birth anniversary and 84th
death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat.
Khaleda said women have become helpless for sharp rise in the influence rogues due to unjust and misrule, and they are being crushed with tragic incidents and exploitation.
She called upon all irrespective of their gender identity to come forward with strong steps to implement Begum Rokeya’s dream removing the current anarchy in society.
The BNP chairperson hoped that the activities and ideals of Begum Rokeya will make women more encouraged and active. She paid deep tributes to the unfading memory of country’s pioneer feminist and prayed for salvation of her departed soul.
